Donald Harrison, Google’s president of Global Partnerships and Corporate Development, has resigned from the board of SpaceX after more than a decade, the Elon Musk-led rockets-to-AI company disclosed on Friday. Harrison notified SpaceX of his resignation on November 4, and it took effect immediately, ending his tenure on the board of the private aerospace manufacturer.
SpaceX stated that Harrison’s decision to resign was not due to any disagreement with the company on matters relating to its operations, policies or practices. Instead, Musk attributed the departure to mounting conflicts of interest involving Google’s parent company, Alphabet. “Don has been a great board member. Very much appreciate his contributions,” Musk wrote in a post on X on Friday, explaining that Harrison stepped down because there were too many conflicts of interest with Alphabet.
Alphabet’s Expanding Stake in SpaceX
The board departure comes as Alphabet remains the largest single institutional holder of SpaceX, according to LSEG data. Google reported on Friday a small increase in its position in SpaceX to about 555 million shares, up from 551.2 million shares held earlier.
Harrison’s Role at Google
Harrison, a longtime executive at Google, currently serves as president of Global Partnerships and Corporate Development. His resignation removes a Google executive from SpaceX’s board after more than a decade of service.
