Google Photos Simplifies Image Sharing – Frandroid Report

Google Photos is preparing a “ Copier » in its sharing options. Designed to copy an image to the clipboard and paste it directly into messaging apps, this should make photo sharing a lot easier.

Google Photos has become one of the leading photo backup tools on Android, but sharing a single snap within a conversation remains impractical for many users.

Sharing is possible but…

Today, of course, it is possible to download the image before sending it, or to use Android’s sharing options, but this second method most often creates a new message in chat applications, which complicates responding to an already started thread. However, there is no longer any doubt that Google is preparing a new button “ Copier » in the sharing options of the Google Photos application.

According to the APK teardown of version 7.63.0.867680147 of the app, this button “ Copier » appears directly in the sharing options and allows you to copy the image to the system clipboard.

The user can then paste this content into a compatible application, such as instant messaging, using the normal paste option offered by Android.

According to Android Authoritythe image thus pasted is transmitted in full definition but with a slight compression which aims to limit the impact on storage without significantly degrading the perceived quality. The idea is to avoid creating a duplicate file in the uploads directory while reducing the number of actions required to insert a photo into an ongoing chat.

One image at a time

Unfortunately, this new option will only allow you to copy one image at a time, which is quite frustrating if you want to share several photos. This is because it is only possible to copy and paste one item at a time into the Android clipboard.

However, there remains a gray area on this option because there is no guarantee that this button will be available for photos and videos only stored on the cloud.

For now, Google has not formalized the “ Copier » nor the deployment schedule of the various interface adjustments spotted in Google Photos.
