Google Updates AI Overviews: New Features for Official Links and Clickable Names

Google Expands AI Overviews with Enhanced Link Integration

Google has introduced updates to its AI Overviews and AI Mode features, aiming to improve user access to verified information. The changes include additional inline links in AI-generated responses, prioritizing official sources and enhancing the visibility of links through thumbnails and redesigned interfaces, according to tuttoandroid.net. According to TuttoAndroid, users can follow them on Google Discover for more links and a dedicated section for official sites in AI-generated responses.

Inline Links and Official Site Section

AI Overviews now display more inline links, positioned higher in search results to reduce user steps in accessing primary sources. A dedicated section for official websites is also being tested, appearing at the top of AI Mode responses. This aligns with Google’s existing practice of highlighting official pages when searching for specific sites, as noted by tuttoandroid.net.

Multilingual Carousels and Link Redesign

Google is expanding its carousels—visual summaries of evolving topics—to more regions and languages. The algorithm prioritizes content from “preferred sources” while incorporating social media and forum posts. Links at the end of AI responses will feature thumbnails and a more clickable design.

Clickable Video Creator Profiles

A test feature allows users to click on names of creators or editors in video results, directing them to the author’s search profile. This functionality is currently limited to U.S. users with significant followings.

User Growth and Data Transparency

The “Preferred Sources” feature saw a sevenfold increase in users since early 2026. However, Google has not yet provided detailed metrics on AI Overviews’ performance, including click-through rates. As of Q2 2025, AI Overviews reached over 2 billion monthly users across 200+ countries, per a statement by Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.

Testing and Future Rollout

While the official site section and video creator profiles remain in testing, Google has not specified timelines for broader releases.
