Donny Ronny’s Experimental Performance in Belgium Leaves Audience Divided

Dutch performer Gover Meit, known in the Netherlands as Donny Ronny and in Belgium as Gover Meit, recently debuted an experimental performance in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, that sparked a mixed reaction from the audience. The show, described as intentionally non-mainstream, featured a performance entirely in darkness, leading approximately forty attendees to leave before the conclusion.

A Performance in the Dark

The try-out performance took place on Thursday at the De Foyer theater in Sint-Niklaas. Tickets were priced at 15 euros. The unconventional nature of the show – being performed in complete darkness – proved challenging for some audience members, with around forty departing before the finish. Meit stated his intention was to “test how far I could go” with the performance.

From Stefano Keizers to Donny Ronny

Gover Meit first gained prominence with his alter ego, Stefano Keizers, from 2015 to 2023. He won the Wim Sonneveldprijs in 2016 for his work as Keizers and appeared as a contestant on the television quiz De Slimste Mens, finishing third in the winter season of 2016-2017. Since March 2023, Meit has been performing under the name Donny Ronny.

A Multi-Faceted Career

Born on August 24, 1987, in Amsterdam, Gover Meit is a Dutch comedian, television presenter, and performance artist. He graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2009 and was involved in several musical groups, including Wooden Constructions, Meitje, and longsy, before focusing on cabaret and performance art. He has also worked in television, including roles as editor and presenter for #FIRST and appearances on shows like MAX Geheugentrainer and Het perfecte plaatje.

Belgian Reception and Future Plans

While the performance in Sint-Niklaas proved divisive, Meit is scheduled to appear in the fall of 2025 on De Slimste Mens ter Wereld, indicating continued interest in his work in Belgium. His comedic style is described as funny and bold, appealing to audiences in Antwerp, Ghent, and Brussels.
