Byeokje Agricultural Cooperative Supports Goyang Farmers with Advanced Training

Byeokje Agricultural Cooperative in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, recently conducted specialized farming education for its members in preparation for the upcoming planting season. The training, held on the 11th and 12th, focused on enhancing the quality and competitiveness of local agricultural products and ensuring stable farming practices for its members.

Addressing Modern Agricultural Challenges

The cooperative’s training program prioritized disseminating the latest farming technologies to address the growing challenges posed by climate change and the increasing risk of pest and disease outbreaks. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to supporting farmers in adapting to evolving agricultural conditions.

Specific Training Modules

The first day of training concentrated on vegetable production, covering preventative measures for menstrual disorders in plants, effective pest control strategies, and optimal soil management techniques for crops like cabbage, radish, and spinach. The second day focused on rice cultivation, specifically addressing the control of bollworm fever and sesame seed spot disease, as well as preventing water germination in ‘Chamdream’ and ‘Kawaji No. 1’ rice varieties.

Promoting Sustainable Practices and Certification

Beyond crop-specific techniques, the training also included guidance on achieving Great Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification, covering procedures, packaging management, and quality control. Byeokje Agricultural Cooperative is actively promoting carbon neutrality by supplying 180,000 liters of microorganisms annually to its members, reducing their reliance on pesticides and chemical fertilizers and enhancing the safety of locally produced agricultural products. Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, has commended Byeokje Nonghyup for its contributions to environmental protection and high-quality agricultural production.

Cooperative Leadership and Future Support

Woo Sang-hoon, president of the cooperative, emphasized the importance of sharing new farming technologies to effectively respond to climate change and unexpected pest and disease occurrences. He affirmed the cooperative’s commitment to expanding practical support and educational opportunities for its members, enabling them to implement these advancements directly in their fields.
