GreedFall 2 Faces Uncertainty as Publisher Nacon Files for Insolvency, Studio Spiders Announces Layoffs
The launch of GreedFall 2: The Dying World on March 12, 2026, is overshadowed by significant financial turmoil at its publisher, Nacon, and workforce reductions at developer Spiders. These developments cast a shadow over the future of the RPG sequel and the studio behind it.
Nacon Files for Insolvency
Just weeks before the full release of GreedFall 2, Nacon, the French publisher and developer behind titles like Styx and Hell is Us, filed for insolvency on February 25, 2026. The Gamer reports that this action stems from a loan default by Nacon’s majority shareholder, Bigben Interactive. The company is now seeking court approval to restructure its debt.
Nacon comprises 16 development studios, including Spiders, the team responsible for the GreedFall series. The company stated its aim is to “assess all possible solutions to ensure the sustainability of the Company’s activity… protect employees, and preserve jobs, while renegotiating with its creditors.”
Spiders Announces Layoffs
Adding to the uncertainty, Spiders is implementing a layoff plan primarily affecting its animation and rigging teams. Rock Paper Shotgun reports that a lead animator, Erwan Perrin, announced on LinkedIn that “most” of the Animation and Rig team will be affected. Several other Spiders employees reposted Perrin’s message, confirming the cuts.
The layoffs come after a period of internal strife at Spiders. Prior to the early access release of GreedFall 2 in September 2025, 44 of the studio’s 95 employees signed an open letter alleging “global mismanagement, turnover and recruitment problems, unacceptable delays in achieving gender equality and parity, significant lack of transparency,” and other issues. Rock Paper Shotgun details that Spiders responded by dismissing the claims as “false and even defamatory.”
What Does This Imply for GreedFall 2?
Despite these challenges, Game Informer suggests that the launch of GreedFall 2: The Dying World on March 12th is likely to proceed as planned. However, the long-term future of Spiders and any potential follow-up projects remains uncertain. ResetEra reports that Spiders will be reliant on Nacon for recent projects until a new pitch is approved, and an unannounced project has been cancelled.
GreedFall 2: The Dying World is set on the continent of Gacane, ravaged by disease, and war. Players begin as prisoners on the island of Teer Fradee and must navigate political intrigue and faction conflicts to find freedom. Like the original GreedFall (released in 2019), player choices will significantly impact the game’s narrative and outcomes.
