The suspect is a Russian citizen Lubomirs Korba, who was born in Ukraine in 1960. Several media outlets, citing unofficial sources, report that Korba also has Ukrainian citizenship. The FSB calls him the direct executor of the assassination attempt. Korba flew to Dubai on Friday, where he was detained and extradited to Russia at the request of Moscow.
Viktor Vasin, a Russian citizen born in 1959, was also detained in Moscow in the case of Alekseev‘s attempted murder. Zinaida Serebricka, a Russian citizen born in Ukraine in 1971, who left for Ukraine, also figures in the case. The FSB calls them matchmakers.
According to the media, Serebricka lived in the same residential complex as Alekseev.
The Russian Investigative Committee claims that Korba arrived in Moscow at the end of December on behalf of Ukrainian special services.
It has already been reported that 64-year-old Alekseyev, who was the first deputy head of the GRU since 2011, was shot on Friday morning in the stairwell of his home on the Volokolamsk Highway and taken to hospital in serious condition. He regained consciousness after the operation on Saturday.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the attempt to kill Alekseev “confirms the Zelensky regime’s focus on constant provocations aimed at disrupting the negotiation process.” On the other hand, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sibiha, rejected the assumptions that Kyiv was involved in the attempted murder of Alekseyev.
