Grand Theft Auto VI Receives Mature Ratings Ahead of November Release
Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, carrying a Mature rating from the ESRB and PEGI 18 in Europe, as Rockstar Games released new character screenshots and gameplay details through a report by Game Informer. The upcoming open-world action game features dual protagonists Jason and Lucia navigating a fictionalized Florida known as the state of Leonida, with content ratings highlighting explicit violence, blood, adult humor, nudity, strong language, sexual content, and substance use.
Rockstar released four new screenshots in collaboration with the French magazine Love, focusing exclusively on Jason and Lucia and highlighting various clothing styles and hairstyles for both protagonists. One restaurant image particularly references the opening scene of Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 cult film Pulp Fiction, alongside non-player characters in Vice City whose appearances vary in height, build, clothing, freckles, and tattoos.
Character Relationships and Dialogue Options in Vice City
The relationship between Jason and Lucia shapes specific parts of the story based on player choices, according to Rockstar Games’ disclosures to Game Informer reported by Deník. Protagonists build their bond through small gestures such as holding hands, replying to text messages promptly, opening car doors, and accepting invitations to activities. Players decide whether the characters form a romantic couple or maintain a partnership focused purely on crime, with neither path granting gameplay advantages. Deník noted that these character interactions prompted online discussions among partners on social media regarding virtual fidelity and romantic simulation elements within Vice City.
Concerned partners on social media discussed whether virtual relationship features, dancing, holding hands, strip club visits, and digital nudity or prostitution could constitute a form of infidelity, expressing worry that men might prioritize digital romance over real-life relationships. Some users on social media called on others not to let their husbands, fiances, or boyfriends play the game.
Expanded Map Scale and Dynamic Weather Systems
Leonida spans an area twice the size of the map in Grand Theft Auto V, featuring six distinct regions characterized by dense urban areas and rural spaces, as detailed by Alza and Tiscali. Owen Shepherd, vice president for lighting and rendering at Rockstar Games, told Game Informer that the title introduces a complex meteorological model featuring autonomous dynamic clouds, rainbows, and severe hurricanes. Tiscali reported that localized weather patterns allow players to experience intense rainstorms in one neighborhood while clear skies persist nearby, with wind speeds capable of moving debris and affecting water surfaces.
The weather system depicts clear winter skies typical of Miami, massive cumulonimbus clouds bringing sudden summer and autumn rainstorms, and hurricanes featuring impenetrable cloud walls, strong winds, lightning, thunder, and heavy rain streaming from lamp posts and rooftops, though Rockstar did not confirm whether weather conditions directly impact gameplay mechanics such as braking distances.
Wildlife Diversity and Gameplay Activities
Players can hunt select wildlife, drawing comparisons to the fauna mechanics in Red Dead Redemption 2. Alza reported that side activities range from base jumping and billiards to gym workouts, kayaking, mini-golf, diving, street racing, and zoo visits. For transit, players can utilize a fast-travel system by sharing rides with non-player characters, which enables passengers to browse the in-game Snapmatic app or converse while on the move, though Alza confirmed direct social media posting is disabled as the protagonists remain fugitives from the law.

Heists and Police Chases
Players can choose between different approaches for robberies, executing crimes as either a single protagonist or both characters, and selecting either aggressive or calm strategies. During police pursuits, players can split Jason and Lucia up to help shake off law enforcement.
