MOHEGAN LAKE, N.Y. – Gymnasts from the combined Yorktown-Somers-John Jay team closed out the postseason with determined performances at the Section One Championships, held on Feb. 5 at Eclipse Gymnastics Center, competing against the deepest talent pool in the region.
John Jay senior Kayla Cambareri capped her season with another steady all-around effort, finishing with a 34.025 total. Cambareri led the squad on vault (9.05) and followed with solid routines on floor exercise (8.8), uneven bars (8.125) and balance beam (8.05), once again demonstrating her reliability across all four events on the biggest stage.
For Yorktown, Ciara Burch represented the Huskers in the all-around, posting a 31.375 total. Burch’s strongest performance came on balance beam, where she scored an 8.7, and she added an 8.025 on vault while also competing on bars and floor. Her Section One appearance followed a strong Division Two showing and highlighted her ability to compete consistently under championship pressure.
Although Somers did not place an athlete in the Section One individual standings, the Tuskers’ presence earlier in the postseason at the Division Two Championships — led by Kaitlin Gannon’s 9.1 on floor exercise — reflected continued growth and experience for the program as it builds toward future sectional contention.
With athletes from John Jay and Yorktown earning the opportunity to compete at Section One and Somers gaining valuable postseason exposure at Division Two, the 2026 championship season showcased the depth and resilience of local gymnastics programs across northern Westchester.
