Dean Franklin, a singer who competed on The Voice UK ten years ago, has succumbed to esophageal cancer, per People. He passed away on Saturday, February 7 at the age of 36. The tragic news was conveyed to the public by his grieving mother, Marie, on
Facebook.
His Mother Broke the News of His Tragic Death
She wrote, “I never wanted to share this news with you all so soon. As a family we are truly heartbroken to announce that our precious boy Dean Franklin who fought so courageously over 8 weeks and 3 days passed over at 21.39pm last night. He was surrounded by love.”
Franklin’s mom also shared, “I have been getting MSG’s from people this morning and wanted as his ma to manifest my son’s courage to share with you all. As a family we will post in more length when we are able. Until then please know that the love you gave to our Dean and all of us has meant so very much”
Marie ended the sorrowful post with a praying hands emoji and a red heart emoji as well. There is also a photo of a tattooed arm on a quilt being gently clasped by five loving hands.
“I’m Gonna Fight”
Franklin announced his stage 4 cancer diagnosis in December 2025 in an
“>Instagram video. He captioned it, “Music has always been how I connect. Right now I’m dealing with some serious health stuff and I wanted you to hear it from me. I’m being supported and taking things one step at a time.”
Looking nervous and emotional, Franklin said the treatment would probably be “quite aggressive.” He added, “I’m gonna fight because I’m stronger than I give myself credit for.”
Franklin’s Cancer Spread
In a subsequent

The singer said that the cancer had spread to his liver. The caption read, “Sharing a quick update and raising awareness. I had no symptoms from the primary cancer, all my symptoms came once it spread to my liver. Please listen to your body and push for answers. I’m so grateful for every message and bit of support”
Franklin explained further in words that are hauntingly true, “Sometimes cancer doesn’t shout where it starts,” he cautioned people. “Sometimes it whispers….”
Despite his dire health circumstances at the time, Franklin was gracious and deeply appreciative of everyone’s compassion, thoughtfulness, and support. There was a GoFundMe set up in his behalf before his death.
