Although competing in the Open Championship in Kent, England, they decided one round wasn’t enough. Their solution was to play 54 holes across three prestigious links courses – Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club, Royal St. George’s Golf Club, and Prince’s Golf Club – in a single day, embodying Hagen’s “carpe diem” spirit.¹

The Modern Hagen 54

More than a century later, the Hagen 54 continues as an annual event, blending a festive atmosphere with a demanding physical challenge. The event debuted in 2025 and has quickly gained popularity, with the 2026 iteration already sold out and the 2027 edition now accepting entries.¹

While the core format – 54 holes played continuously across the three courses – remains true to Hagen and Barnes’ original spirit, modern amenities enhance the experience. Participants now benefit from the support of caddies, on-course catering, and the camaraderie of fellow golfers.

Event Details for 2027

The 2027 Hagen 54 will take place on July 21-22 on the Kent coast. The schedule includes:

• July 21: Arrival and a welcome reception and BBQ at Royal Cinque Ports. Optional golf is available at Prince’s or Royal Cinque Ports for those wishing to warm up.
• July 22: A 5:40 a.m. Shotgun start, with players competing in fourballs across the Hagen Route.

Entry Information
