Hamas Will Surrender Weapons If Israeli Occupation ends
Gaza City – Hamas said its fighters are ready to surrender their weapons in the Gaza Strip to a new Palestinian authority that will rule the territory after the war ends, but only if the Israeli occupation ends.
“our weapons are linked to the existence of occupation and aggression,” Hamas’ chief negotiator, Khalil al-Hayya, who also serves as Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip, said in a statement reported by AFP and Al Arabiya on Monday, December 8, 2025.
“If the occupation ends, these weapons will be under state authority,” Al-Hayya stressed, referring to a sovereign and independent Palestinian state.
