USC Women’s Golf Secures Victory at 40th Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

‘AIEA, O’ahu – The University of Southern California (USC) women’s golf team claimed a decisive victory at the 40th Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, held at Pearl at Kalauao on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The Trojans finished with a remarkable 28-under-par total of 824, leaving the competition behind.

Tournament Recap

The 40th edition of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational honored the legacy of Dr. Donnis Thompson, a pioneer for women’s athletics at the University of Hawai’i. The University of Hawai’i women’s golf team concluded the event in 11th place, posting a three-day total of 909 (+57). Their final round score was 304.

USC’s Dominant Performance

USC’s victory marks their first appearance at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational since 2003, where they previously won the tournament in 1994 and 2003. The Trojans entered Wednesday’s final round with a 16-stroke lead and maintained their strong position throughout the day.

Leading the charge for USC was Jasmine Koo, who secured the individual medalist title with an impressive 11-under-par (202) total, including a final-round 4-under 67. USC showcased depth, with four of their five starters finishing within the top 20.

Hawai’i’s Results and Senior Recognition

The University of Hawai’i recognized three seniors – Emiko Sverduk, Sofina Firouzi, and Wendy Song – during the tournament. Sverduk delivered a strong final round, carding an even-par 71 to finish at 228 (+15). Firouzi concluded her home career in 65th place with a 54-hole total of 236 (+23), although Song did not compete due to injury.

Maline Kraus led the Rainbow Wahine, tying for 32nd place with a total of 222 (+9). Jasmine Wong finished in a tie for 39th at 225 (+12). Chloe Ku tied for 68th with a total of 240 (+27), and Kaydence Kim, competing as an individual, tied for 56th at 230 (+17).

The University of Hawai’i will next compete at the Ping ASU Tournament, March 23-25 in Phoenix, Arizona, before participating in the Big West Championship in April at the Royal Kā’anapali Course in west Maui.

Additional Notes

Players, coaches, and fans wore pink ribbons during the tournament in support of the late wife of Texas State head coach, Par Nilsson, who recently passed away from breast cancer. Texas State finished in third place at 5-under par.

No. 23 Arizona State finished in second place at 6-under-par, while No. 13 North Carolina placed fourth at 2-under-par.
