Hawks’ Okongwu Sends Warning to NBA After Three-Point Eruption

ATLANTA – Onyeka Okongwu delivered a standout performance, scoring 25 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and hitting seven three-pointers, leading the Atlanta Hawks to a 135-101 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night. The win marked the Hawks’ fourth consecutive victory by an average of 26.5 points, improving their record to 31-31 and securing ninth place in the Eastern Conference ESPN.

Okongwu’s Breakout Performance

Okongwu’s seven three-pointers were a key factor in the Hawks’ dominant performance. He previously faced the Trail Blazers earlier this season, attempting 15 three-pointers and making five. This time, he connected on seven of his 12 attempts Yahoo Sports. After making several shots in the first quarter, Okongwu playfully taunted a Trail Blazers coach, asking if they would continue to allow him open looks. The coach did not adjust the defensive strategy.

“When I make one, two, or three, they got to do something about it,” Okongwu said. “When it rains, it pours.”

Teammate Dyson Daniels praised Okongwu’s confidence, stating, “He tells everyone in the locker room that he’s the best shooter in the locker room. So if they leave him open like that, he’s got to travel out and prove it.” Daniels added that the team trusts Okongwu to take those shots, even when they aren’t falling Yahoo Sports.

Hawks Dominate Trail Blazers

The Hawks’ strong start, with 44 points in the first quarter, set the tone for the game. They shot 65% from the field and 87% from the free-throw line in the opening period. CJ McCollum added 19 points for Atlanta, while Jonathan Kuminga contributed 20 points and seven rebounds off the bench ESPN.
