Abeilles Fall to HC Sierre for Third Time This Season, Show Fight in Final Period
For the third time this season, and in as many matches, the Abeilles suffered a loss against HC Sierre. Though, unlike previous encounters, the Bees can hold their heads high, having battled fiercely throughout the third period.
The Abeilles lineup remained largely unchanged from Friday’s game, with the only adjustment being a swap between Loan Burkhalter and Yoan Imesch.Hopes where high that the previous defeat against Sierre before the break would be a distant memory.
The game exploded into action quickly, with Tim Grossniklaus opening the scoring after just 15 seconds. Capitalizing on a defensive error, he drove into the area and fired a precise shot past the Sierre goalkeeper. The Abeilles continued to assert their presence, with two sierre players leaving the ice with difficulty within the first three minutes, though without drawing penalties.
The scoring continued at a rapid pace. Samuel Asselin’s powerful shot was denied by the post in the 6th minute, but Stéphane Patry found the back of the net a minute later. Maxime Montandon quickly responded for Sierre in the 9th minute, but the Abeilles equalized immediately. However, the back-and-forth continued, with Gilian Kohler scoring for Sierre in the 10th minute. Noah Berthoud’s shot from the blue line, deflected by Arnaud Riat, extended Sierre’s led in the 12th minute.
A subsequent altercation led to Sacha Berthoud and Noah Böhler being ejected, forcing the Abeilles to play shorthanded for two minutes. Despite the disadvantage, the Bees effectively controlled the penalty kill and even created scoring chances. Toms Andersons was denied by Remo Giovannini, and just 13 seconds later, Santo Simmchen couldn’t control a backhand shot from Leonardo Fuhrer, with Samuel Asselin ultimately pushing the puck past the Chaux-de-Fonier goalkeeper. The visitors regained some composure in the final minutes of the period, but their shots were often off-target.
The second period saw a lull in action until the 23rd minute, when the Abeilles’ first line broke through the Valais defense. Timothy Kast scored in the 27th minute, giving the visitors a renewed push. toms Andersons nearly responded in the 28th minute, hitting the outside of the net. The Abeilles had an opportunity to capitalize on a power play in the 29th minute following a foul by Leonardo fuhrer, but struggled to establish control, with david Lindquist having a promising chance during a scramble.
HC Sierre Defeats HC La Chaux-de-fonds 6-3 in Graben Ice Rink Match
Sierre, Switzerland – November 30, 2024 – HC Sierre secured a decisive 6-3 victory over HC La Chaux-de-Fonds at the Graben ice rink on November 30, 2024, in front of 2678 spectators.Despite early nervousness and conceded penalties, Sierre ultimately dominated the game, fueled by strong offensive play and solid goaltending.
The game began with an early goal from La Chaux-de-Fonds’ Joël Scheidegger at 15 seconds, assisted by Lindquist and Scheidegger. Sierre quickly responded with a goal from Marc Patry at 6:31, tying the score. Sierre continued their momentum with a goal from Maxime Montandon at 8:02, taking the lead. However, Sierre sealed the victory with an empty-net goal by Guillaume Maillard at 58:07, finalizing the score at 6-3.
Throughout the game, Remo Giovannini, Sierre’s goaltender, delivered a strong performance, making crucial saves, particularly during a power play for La Chaux-de-Fonds. Santo Simmchen, the La Chaux-de-Fonds goaltender, also made key saves, including a one-on-one stop with just one minute remaining.
