Nationwide Health Initiative to Roll Out in Preschools, Targeting K1 and K2 Children

A thorough health initiative is set to be implemented across approximately 1,800 preschools in Singapore by the end of the year, focusing on cultivating healthy habits in children during their formative years. The program, a collaborative effort between the ministry of Health (MOH), the Ministry of Education (MOE), and the ministry of Social and Family Growth (MSF), will initially roll out in phases starting this January.

The initiative was initially piloted in six preschools in July 2025, reaching around 840 students. Positive feedback from both parents and preschool operators following the pilot program has validated the approach and paved the way for a nationwide expansion to encompass all Kindergarten 1 (K1) and Kindergarten 2 (K2) children.

Recognizing the critical importance of the preschool years in shaping lifelong health, the ministries emphasized that this period is crucial for establishing preferences and habits. Research, including findings from the Growing Up in singapore Towards healthy Outcomes study, supports the notion that early intervention is most effective in fostering healthy behaviors.

Each student will receive a personalized health plan tailored to their individual interests and habits. Thes plans will be informed by insights gathered from annual school health screenings conducted in preschools, as well as lifestyle questionnaires completed by parents at the beginning of the year.

To reinforce healthy habits beyond the classroom, parents will be provided with activity sheets designed to engage their children at home. Preschools will also receive a dedicated toolkit containing resources to promote a health-conscious surroundings within the school setting.
