Hideo Kojima Completes Physint Plot, Filming to Begin Next Year

Game developer Hideo Kojima has completed the plot for his upcoming action-espionage game, Physint, and expects physical filming to begin next year, according to reports. The project marks a return to the stealth-action genre that defined his early career, functioning as a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid while celebrating his 40th development anniversary.

Production Progress And Casting Details

Kojima shared the latest production updates during a 79-minute episode of his revived Which10 podcast. While physical shooting has not yet started, actors including Bill Skarsgard, Charlie Fraser, and Minami Hamabe have already undergone scanning sessions. Kojima personally selected the cast for the title, noting that roughly 70 percent of the chosen actors are fans of his previous work. Many character names for the project are already finalized.

The development timeline for Physint remains lengthy. Kojima previously estimated that the game will take five to six years to complete. Furthermore, Kojima Productions’ separate title with Microsoft, titled OF, is scheduled to launch before Physint hits the market.

Sony halts funding as Physint moves to Xbox

Behind-the-scenes financial shifts have altered the trajectory of Kojima’s upcoming slate. yangcanggih.com reported that Physint transitioned from PlayStation to the Xbox ecosystem after Sony abruptly halted funding for the project. This sudden shift sparked industry debate regarding studio independence and financing risks.

Reports place the value of the new Xbox agreement well below early speculation of a 400 million dollar budget. The finalized contract covers publishing rights for Physint alongside television and film licenses, as well as the ongoing development of OF. Despite the publisher change, Kojima maintained that his professional relationship with Sony remains positive, describing corporate entities as dynamic and confirming that broader ties with PlayStation continue.
