Honda Power Equipment Demand Surges in Latvia Amidst Harsh Winter and Flooding
Latvia has seen a significant increase in demand for Honda power equipment, particularly generators and water pumps, driven by a challenging winter and subsequent spring floods. The surge in demand highlights a growing require for reliable power and water management solutions among Latvian households and businesses.
Winter Strain Drives Generator Sales
A particularly cold winter placed considerable strain on Latvia’s heating infrastructure, prompting residents to seek alternative power sources. Many households have invested in heat pump systems, but power outages threatened their functionality. According to Māris Zoltners, Sales Manager at Absolut Auto RIGA, a Honda dealer, this led to a substantial rise in demand for Honda generators.
“The cold winter set additional strain on heating systems,” Zoltners stated. “People, with fine intentions, installed heat pumps, but what do you do if the power supply is interrupted for several hours?”
Honda offers a range of generators to meet varying needs. Smaller, less powerful generators are suitable for short-term outages, while larger models, costing upwards of 6000 euros, are necessary to support heat pump systems. Zoltners recommends a mid-range option of 2-3 kW to cover typical household consumption. Honda currently offers 1, 2.2, and 3.2 kilowatt generators.
Flooding Boosts Water Pump Sales
As the winter subsided, Latvia experienced spring flooding, shifting consumer interest towards Honda’s water pump offerings. The choice between pump models depends on whether high pressure or high volume is required, as both cannot be maximized simultaneously. Honda offers several pump models.
Zoltners explained that Honda also provides “dirty water pumps” equipped with filters to handle debris-filled water, preventing clogging. “You put the suction basket in dirty water, and the only task is to make sure the filter doesn’t get clogged with leaves,” he said.

Honda offers several generator series. The “EU” series inverter generators are known for their quiet operation and compact size, providing clean power suitable for sensitive electronics. These models range from approximately 1 kW to 2.2 kW and can be paired for increased power. The “EM” series generators are designed for professional use, offering greater power and durability for construction sites or continuous home power supply. Some “EM” series models, like the EM 4500CXS and EM 5500CXS, feature “i-AVR” technology for stable electrical output.
Beyond generators and pumps, Honda provides lawn mowers, including robotic models like “Miimo,” which are waterproof and navigate using a built-in cable.
