Honduran Bishops Emphasize Permanent Missionary Activity in Parishes
Tegucigalpa, Honduras – The Honduran Episcopal Conference (CEH) has issued a call for missionary work to develop into a permanent activity within every parish, movement, and ecclesial group across the country. The message, titled “Somos Misión” (We are Mission), was published on February 4, 2026, and builds upon the National Envoy to the Holy Mission celebrated at the minor Basilica “Our Lady of Suyapa” in Tegucigalpa.
National Envoy and Synodal Focus
The National Envoy, held on February 3, 2026, served as the initial launch of a missionary journey focused on the proclamation of the Gospel, prayer, and fostering encounters with God and fellow believers. This journey will continue at diocesan and parish levels, culminating on the solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe on November 22, 2026.
Call for Universal Participation
According to Father Bernardino Lazo Cardenas, Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Honduras, the bishops express “great hope in this new impulse of the Holy Spirit, which pushes us to unite our best intentions for the proclamation of the Gospel in Honduras.” He emphasized the importance of participation and commitment from all, referencing the parable of Matthew 20:1-16 and the principle that “the last will be first.”
Relevance of Mission in a Modern World
Father Cardenas highlighted the enduring relevance of missionary work despite advancements in technology, and science. He noted that these advancements have not filled the inherent human demand for meaning and purpose, making the presentation of Jesus and the Good News essential in every corner of the world.
