Honduran Public Prosecutor Arrests Suspect in René Altamirano Murder
San Pedro Sula, Honduras – Franklin Eduardo Ramírez Majano has been arrested in connection with the February 6th murder of lawyer René Altamirano Interiano, according to the Honduran Public Prosecutor’s Office (Ministerio Público). Ramírez Majano is accused of criminal association and murder and has been transferred to the National Penitentiary Center of Támara.
Details of the Arrest and Investigation
The arrest, carried out by the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes Against Life (FEDCV) in San Pedro Sula, follows an investigation conducted in collaboration with the Violent Crimes Task Force Unit of the Police Investigation Directorate (DPI) in El Progreso, Yoro. Two raids, authorized by the Criminal Court with National Jurisdiction in Matters of Organized Crime, Environment and Corruption, were conducted to gather evidence.

René Altamirano was shot several times a few meters from his legal office in the Medina neighborhood of San Pedro Sula, on 14th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue. News reports from February 3, 2026, indicated that former President Lobo arrived at the Public Prosecutor’s Office following the incident.
Upcoming Legal Proceedings
Ramírez Majano is scheduled to appear in court again on Monday, March 23rd, for the initial hearing. The prosecution intends to present evidence linking him to the murder and request preventive detention. The Public Prosecutor’s Office stated it will continue to investigate the crime and does not rule out further arrests of those involved.
