This is because when her husband, Jay, commercialized and launched the eating habits that were cited as his wife’s secret to dieting, some raised suspicions that this was a strategic ‘build-up’ for the business. Author Jay himself posted a long article to provide an explanation, but the cold stares that doubt its sincerity are not going away.
The start was Hong Hyun-hee’s ‘Oyasik (Oil, Vegetable, Vinegar)’ routine. Hong Hyun-hee, who recently lost more than 10 kg and reached 49 kg, attracted a lot of attention by emphasizing the importance of blood sugar management and eating habits through YouTube and SNS. However, immediately after the news of successful weight loss, Jay-Born launched a brand that commercialized the routine and Hong Hyun-hee took the lead in promoting it, sparking a controversy among netizens over the ‘Pali People (Pali+People)’ argument that revealing the diet process was ultimately a prerequisite for product sales. In particular, the impact grew as voices raised concerns about the lack of professionalism of interior designer Jay.
As the situation took an unusual turn, Jay wrote a point-by-point rebuttal through his SNS on the 13th. First of all, he drew a line about the released product, saying, “It is not a diet pill, health functional food, or medicine, but a general food.” The explanation is that the vinegar, oil, and vegetables that Hong Hyun-hee regularly consumed were commercialized to make them easier to consume with safer, more consistent quality, and that “there are no ridiculous products that disappear just by eating them.” In addition, regarding the ‘Wigobi and Maunjaro prescription theory’ circulating online, he said, “I have never received a prescription, and I have no plans to do so,” and repeatedly emphasized that his wife’s weight loss was the result of a long period of painstaking effort, including Pilates and walking.
Jay wrote that he had watched his wife change her eating habits for health and worked hard through repeated failures and successes, and also expressed that the product launch did not happen overnight. However, despite this explanation, public opinion still runs parallel paths. Supporters, who say they can feel the husband’s sincerity, and critics, who say that the way in which the wife’s weight loss narrative is used commercially, regardless of whether it is a regular food product, are problematic, are in tension. In the end, the core of this controversy remains the ‘authenticity of the process’ rather than the product’s ingredients, so the debate over whether Hong Hyun-hee’s diet was pure health recovery or a meticulous business strategy is expected to continue for the time being.
