Homeowner Killed During Burglary in West Houston, Suspect Charged with Murder

HOUSTON – A homeowner in his 60s was fatally shot during a burglary at a residence in the Memorial area of west Houston early Saturday morning, February 21, 2026. A suspect is in custody and has been charged with murder, according to the Houston Police Department.

Details of the Incident

The incident began around 12:15 a.m. At a home in the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road, near Carriage Hill Drive. Police responded to a 911 call from someone inside the home who reported hearing glass breaking and suspected a break-in KHOU. The caller then contacted their spouse, leading to an altercation and subsequent gunfire.

Both the homeowner and the suspect sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to area hospitals. The homeowner was pronounced dead at the hospital Click2Houston.

Investigation Status

Police have not yet determined if the burglary was targeted or random. The investigation is ongoing. There were multiple people inside the home at the time of the shooting Click2Houston.

A neighbor who knew the victim told KPRC 2 News that the homeowner was his pastor Click2Houston.

Previous Incident in the Area

The shooting follows a separate incident on Friday in the 1900 block of South Kirkwood Road, where an adult male was found shot to death. Suspects in that case fled in a burgundy sedan Hoodline. Police are investigating whether the two incidents are related.
