HP is another company testing hardware subscriptions. In the USA, the Omen Gaming Subscription program started, which gives players a laptop for a monthly fee, possibly even some accessories, without having to pay tens of thousands at once.
But they will of course pay off with long-term use. HP offers four notebooks of different performances for a subscription and requires a one-year commitment for them, in case of interruption of which it will charge high penalties. For the duration of the subscription, users will receive NBD’s next-business-day device replacement warranty. And after one year, they can upgrade to a newer or faster device for one monthly fee. But after a certain period of time, they will not have the laptop, nor can they buy it back. In short, it is operational leasing known from car rental.
The cheapest subscription is for an HP Victus 15 with a Ryzen 7 8845HS chip, 16GB of RAM, 1TB SSD and RTX 4050 graphics. That works out to $50 a month, and in this configuration it can now be bought for $950, i.e. for 19 monthly installments. In the first month, the laptop can be returned for free, then a penalty of $550 is paid, leaving no Victus user.
The highest model offered is the HP Omen Max 16, which carries a Core Ultra 9 275HX, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and RTX 5080 graphics. The monthly lease is $130. It is sold as standard for $2,640, or roughly 20 monthly installments. Here, too, the first month the laptop can be returned free of charge, then from the second to the twelfth month it is already with a fine of 1430 dollars.
We do not yet know if the program will expand outside the US. The second largest computer manufacturer will probably make a decision only on the basis of (un)success in the domestic market.
