Volunteer Efforts Underway to Assist Storm Victims in Santa Rosa County
The organization is focusing on clearing fallen trees and storm debris in the Milton area, where many residents lack the physical ability or resources to manage the cleanup independently. Experienced chainsaw operators are particularly needed, with volunteers required to bring their own equipment and safety gear. Meals and accommodations will be provided for those traveling to assist, according to the group’s founder, Rob Gaudet.
Volunteer check-in is available at Walmart Supercenter, U.S. Highway 90, Pace, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those unable to volunteer can support relief operations through financial contributions by donating at Give.GroundForce.ngo.
Schools Remain Closed Through October 13 as Cleanup Progresses
The Santa Rosa County School District announced that all campuses and district offices will stay closed through October 13. Officials stated that cleanup efforts and road safety assessments require additional time, with a goal to reopen by October 14 on a school-by-school basis.
The school board meeting scheduled for October 13 will still meet at its regular time. The district emphasized that crews need additional time to complete cleanup and recovery efforts, and roads must be clear and safe for school buses to operate.

Relief Resources Available for Residents
Multiple organizations are providing essential supplies to storm-affected residents. Convoy of Hope and the Salvation Army are distributing food, water, and hygiene items, while the Red Cross will offer meals at several locations. Point of Distribution (POD) sites, including Hickory Hammock Baptist Church and King Middle School, will distribute MREs, water, ice, and tarps starting October 12.
