MAFRA Introduces Consent Options Across Major Czech Digital Platforms

Users accessing several prominent Czech media outlets must now choose between paying for content or consenting to extensive data profiling for targeted advertising, idnes.cz reported. The policy applies across four major web portals operated by MAFRA, a.s.: iDNES.cz, Lidovky.cz, Expres.cz, and Antiyoutuber.cz.

Visitors who decline the payment option are presented with a consent choice. Accepting targeted advertising allows the publisher and 125 registered advertising partners to track internet habits, actions, and personal interests. This tracking builds behavioral profiles used to deliver both targeted and untargeted ads across the network.

Paid Subscriptions Remove Display Advertising After Consent Withdrawal

Users can withdraw advertising consent at any time, but doing so triggers a prompt to subscribe to iDNES Premium, a paid tier that removes standard display advertising. Consents for non-advertising purposes, such as content display based on user interests, can be changed or revoked without forcing an upgrade to the paid subscription model. Certain non-advertising data processing operations rely on legitimate interests, allowing users to file objections through the detailed privacy settings menu.

Technical constraints on the publisher side require specific actions from users who reject personalized content and tracking. Because advertising providers cannot automatically filter certain features, users must manually select or deselect specific processing categories within the publisher settings menu. These restricted categories include the use of profiles for personalized content selection, the creation of profiles for personalized content, measurement of content performance, and technical site operations.

Consent Choices Apply Across Four Site Networks

The data processing network involves 125 external advertising partners alongside MAFRA, a.s. A complete and continuously updated list of these corporate partners and their specific data handling procedures is available through the privacy settings interface on each site.

Consent choices made on one platform automatically apply across the entire four-site network. Granting advertising consent on Lidovky.cz, for example, establishes active profiling preferences for iDNES.cz, Expres.cz, and Antiyoutuber.cz. Conversely, opting out of specific tracking parameters on one portal updates the privacy configuration for all connected domains within the MAFRA publishing ecosystem. Certain specialized commercial formats, such as self-promotional messages or corporate communications from MAFRA and its subsidiaries, remain exempt from these removal controls due to technical limitations in ad delivery architecture.
