Dr. Can Tran Thanh Trung, born in 1995, exemplifies a dedication to both academic excellence and a commitment to fostering the next generation of Vietnamese scientists. From winning a gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) to earning a doctorate from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), his journey is marked by consistent achievement and a desire to contribute to his homeland.
Early Life and Academic Promise
Growing up in Ho Chi Minh City, Dr. Trung’s aptitude for mathematics was apparent from a young age. His mother, Ms. Ha, recalled his ability to solve problems mentally even in kindergarten Vietnamnet. Despite initial setbacks in qualifying for gifted programs in middle school, his passion for the subject persisted.
High School and International Recognition
Dr. Trung’s turning point came with his enrollment at the High School for the Gifted at the Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City. Return to Vietnam and Commitment to Education
Despite opportunities to pursue a career in the United States, Dr. Trung chose to return to Vietnam, motivated by a desire to contribute to the country’s academic ecosystem. He joined the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Science, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, through the VNU350 program, which aims to attract and train young scientists VnExpress.
Dr. Trung’s work extends beyond teaching. He is involved in the selection and training of gifted high school mathematics students, and continues to inspire young people across Vietnam.
