ISKI East Java Leadership: Suko Widodo Emphasizes Ethical Communication in the Digital Age
Dr. Suko Widodo, a communication expert from Airlangga University (UNAIR), has been elected as the Chairman of the Indonesian Communication Scholars Association (ISKI) for the East Java region for the 2026-2028 period. His election took place through acclamation during the East Java ISKI Regional Conference (Musyawil) held in Surabaya on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Addressing Communication Disruption
In his inaugural address, Suko Widodo highlighted the current climate of communication, which he believes is facing significant disruption due to the pressures of digital technology. He stressed the importance of preserving the human element within communication, stating, “We all need to strive to restore the function of human communication. So that digital communication technology does not damage the future of our children.”
The Role of Ethics in a Digital World
Widodo emphasized the need for a strong ethical foundation for communication professionals and scholars in navigating the challenges of the digital era. He believes technology should not jeopardize the future of younger generations or damage existing social relationships. “Technology should not damage the future of children and should not damage existing social relations,” he added.
Communication Outlook 2026
The East Java ISKI Regional Conference was part of the broader Communication Outlook 2026 event, themed “Maintaining Direction, Maintaining Sustainability.” The event brought together members and leaders of ISKI East Java.

Under Widodo’s leadership, ISKI East Java aims to play an active role in upholding the quality of public communication, ensuring it remains ethical, humanistic, and sustainable amidst rapid technological advancements.
