Indonesian Prosecutors Seize Rp11.8 Billion in Jakarta Nickel Corruption Investigation
Indonesian prosecutors seized Rp11.8 billion in cash during raids across six locations in Jakarta as part of an ongoing probe into alleged corruption in Southeast Sulawesi nickel mining operations spanning from 2013 to 2025. Saiful Bahri, director of investigations at the Attorney General’s Office special crimes division, stated that officers recovered Rp11.2 billion at one site and an additional Rp595 million at a second location during operations on Thursday.
Investigators discovered the cash stored inside suitcases and bags at a company office. Alongside the currency, law enforcement officials confiscated physical documents relating to nickel mining operations and electronic media, including mobile phones, laptops, computer units, and servers.
Searches Target Locations Across Jakarta Linked to Absent Controller
The Thursday raids covered six sites in Jakarta allegedly connected to an individual identified by initials as AK, whom investigators describe as the controller of several nickel mining companies. Saiful stated that AK is currently overseas, and the Attorney General’s Office is coordinating with immigration authorities to determine his exact whereabouts.
The targeted properties included a residential house in South Jakarta and corporate offices belonging to four different companies located at APL Tower in Central Park, Mid Plaza, and the Sudirman Central Business District. Investigators are actively reviewing bank account documents tied to these entities to evaluate potential asset freezes, though Saiful did not disclose specific financial targets or account details.
Investigators question witnesses regarding mining bribes
Investigators have questioned 38 witnesses and established operational links between AK and the mining enterprises under scrutiny. The inquiry focuses on allegations that mining companies bribed government officials to secure administrative favors, including licensing, production approvals, and sales procedures.
Authorities continue to examine witnesses and compile evidence before transferring the case files to prosecutors for trial.
