Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment Announce Landmark Global Streaming deal

Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment have solidified their partnership with a new multi-year global Pay-1 agreement. This landmark deal designates Netflix as the exclusive streaming platform for Sony Pictures’ films following their theatrical and home entertainment releases.

This agreement marks the first of its kind with extensive global coverage. The rollout will be phased, with full global operation anticipated in the early months of 2029. Currently,Netflix already secures pay-1 rights for Sony films in select territories,boasting a catalog that includes popular titles like Uncharted,Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,Anyone But You,and Venom: the Last Dance.

According to Lauren Smith, VP of Netflix, the agreement will “add enormous value to subscriptions, bringing iconic franchises and original films to global audiences.” The move is expected to significantly enhance the streaming service’s content library and attract a wider viewership.

Paul Littmann of Sony Pictures emphasized that the deal strengthens the existing partnership while allowing the studio to maintain its independence. This collaborative approach allows Sony to leverage Netflix’s extensive reach while retaining control over its film production and distribution strategies.

Upcoming films slated for inclusion in the agreement include The Nightingale, starring Dakota and Elle Fanning, Sony Pictures Animation’s Buds, the live-action adaptation of The Legend of zelda, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, and the four forthcoming films centered around The Beatles, directed by sam Mendes. these additions promise a diverse range of content for Netflix subscribers.
