Apple Music Gets an AI Boost with Playlist Playground in iOS 26.4

Apple Music is set to receive a significant update with the release of iOS 26.4, introducing a latest AI-powered feature called Playlist Playground. This update, currently available to developer beta testers, promises to revolutionize how users create and discover music, alongside several other enhancements to the Apple Music experience.

Playlist Playground: AI-Powered Playlist Creation

The headline feature of iOS 26.4 is Playlist Playground, an Apple Intelligence tool that allows users to generate playlists based on simple text prompts. Accessible through a new playlist icon in the “Library” page of the Apple Music app, the feature enables users to describe the desired mood, genre, or theme, and have AI curate a playlist accordingly. 9to5Mac first reported on this feature.

Apple also provides pre-written “New Playlist Ideas” prompts to support users get started. Once a playlist is generated, users retain full control, with the ability to manually add, remove, and reorder tracks. Importantly, Playlist Playground allows for iterative refinement – users can continue to prompt the AI to adjust the playlist without starting from scratch. If the feature isn’t immediately visible after updating to iOS 26.4, users may need to check the “Apple Intelligence & Siri” menu in Settings, as the necessary models may still be downloading.

Enhanced Visual Experience: New Album and Playlist Designs

iOS 26.4 introduces a refreshed visual design for albums, and playlists. The update utilizes fullscreen artwork, extending the album or playlist art to style the entire background of the track list and user interface elements. This creates a more immersive and visually appealing experience, with color schemes dynamically adapting to the artwork’s dominant hues.

Ambient Music on the Home Screen

Building on last year’s introduction of Ambient Music in Control Center, iOS 26.4 brings this feature to the Home Screen with a new widget. Available in Small and Medium sizes, the widget provides quick access to curated music selections designed for specific moods: Chill, Productivity, Sleep, and Wellbeing.

Streamlined Playlist Management

Apple is simplifying playlist management with the ability to add songs to multiple playlists simultaneously. A new selection button in the bottom-right corner of the “Add to Playlist” menu allows users to quickly choose several playlists at once, saving time and effort.

Concert Information Integration

The Music app will now display upcoming concert information directly within artist profiles. Users can find details on upcoming shows, including venue, start time, and ticket purchasing links. This integration provides a convenient way to stay informed about live music events.

Availability

iOS 26.4 is currently available to developer beta testers, with a public beta expected in the coming weeks. Apple Music is available for $10.99/month, or as part of the Apple One bundle.
