French Voters Demand Food Education Overhaul Before 2027 Election

France faces a widening gap between public expectation and institutional reality regarding children’s nutrition, as a recent poll reveals that 74% of citizens find current food education insatisfactory.

Public Dissatisfaction Confronts Institutional Inaction

A new survey conducted by Ipsos BVA for La Tablée des Chefs reveals a stark contrast between the perceived importance of dietary education and its actual delivery. While 98% of the surveyed panel views food education as an important issue, only 19% rate current children’s instruction as satisfactory. The survey shows that 93% of respondents consider parents’ roles primordial, yet an equal percentage assigns a vital responsibility to schools. Despite this expectation, 53% of French citizens state that schools fail to provide adequate instruction. Furthermore, 9 out of 10 respondents view this educational shortfall as a marker of deep social inequality.

Political Stakes Rise for the 2027 Presidential Race

The widespread dissatisfaction threatens to influence the upcoming 2027 presidential election. Data from the Ipsos BVA survey indicates that 63% of voters want presidential candidates to offer concrete proposals regarding food education within their platforms. Additionally, 57% demand that candidates address the topic directly throughout the campaign. For nearly half of the surveyed panel (49%), this policy area serves as a campaign argument that could sway their vote.

The French send a clear message: they know that eating well is a question of health, social justice and future, but they note that our children are not armed to achieve it, said Vincent Brassart, founder of La Tablée des Chefs France. In this World Food Day, we call on the candidates to the presidential election to make food education a national priority, starting with school and a practical apprenticeship of cooking.
