Iran’s Escalating Attacks on Gulf States Amidst Wider Conflict
As the conflict between Iran and the United States and Israel intensifies, Iran has significantly increased its attacks on Gulf states, particularly the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This escalation has raised concerns about regional stability and the potential for broader conflict, prompting international responses and defensive measures from targeted nations.
Escalation of Attacks
Within hours of the outbreak of war in the Middle East on February 28, cities across the UAE experienced Iranian attacks. As of March 11, 2026, approximately 1,700 missiles and drones have been launched towards the Emirates alone, according to the country’s defense ministry (ABC News). Iran has attacked at least 11 countries and territories in retaliation for ongoing US and Israeli strikes.
On March 3, an intercepted Iranian drone hit the Fujairah oil facility in the UAE (ABC News). More recently, on March 10, Bahrain was attacked by three missiles and a drone, resulting in the death of a 29-year-old woman and injuries to eight others (The Times of Israel). Saudi Arabia also reported destroying two drones over its oil-rich eastern region, and Kuwait’s National Guard stated it shot down six drones (The Times of Israel).
On March 11, nine Iranian drones impacted the UAE, while an additional 26 drones and eight missiles were intercepted (The Times of Israel). There have been at least six deaths and 122 injuries in the UAE as a result of Iran’s attacks.
UAE as a Primary Target
While multiple Gulf states have been targeted, the UAE appears to be experiencing a disproportionate number of attacks. It is estimated that Iran may have launched more air strikes against the UAE than against Israel (ABC News). These strikes have impacted airports, tourist attractions, and the US consulate in Dubai.
Iran’s Strategic Objectives
