During Paxley’s celebration on the most recent NXT episode, Dame confronted Paxley, accusing her of remaining the same outcast she was when she first arrived in NXT and claiming others would soon observe Paxley as desperate to fit in.

Dame’s verbal attack quickly turned physical. After Paxley attempted to leave the ring, she was met by Shawn Spears and Niko Vance, followed by a large boot from Dame. Dame then delivered a powerbomb to Paxley and raised the title she previously held. Paxley retaliated by ambushing Dame backstage in a garage, leading to a confrontation that required security intervention.

Amidst the chaos, NXT Interim General Manager Robert Stone announced the Steel Cage Match, giving both competitors a definitive opportunity to settle their score.
