Jacob Fowler Makes 46 Saves as Montreal Canadiens Blank St. Louis Blues
He’s playing good hockey, that’s for sure,
Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis told reporters in St. Louis regarding his goaltender. Jacob Fowler stopped 46 shots for his second shutout of the season on Tuesday night, leading the Canadiens to a 2-0 victory against the St. Louis Blues.
The win improved Montreal’s record to 7-3-2 and 4-1-1 on the road, marking their third straight away victory. Fowler secured the third shutout of his 24-game NHL career, stopping 24 shots in the third period alone. The 21-year-old goaltender has allowed one goal or fewer in each of his past three starts, extending the Canadiens’ point streak to five games at 4-0-1.
Zachary Bolduc and Florian Xhekaj Seal Victory Against Former Team
Zachary Bolduc opened the scoring with 11:23 left in the second period, slapping a one-timer from the right circle past goaltender Jordan Binnington. The goal was Bolduc’s fifth of the season and his first against the franchise that selected him 17th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft. St. Louis originally traded Bolduc to Montreal on July 1, 2025, in exchange for defenseman Logan Mailloux. Mike Matheson and Alexandre Texier assisted on the play.

Florian Xhekaj added his first career NHL goal just 2:17 into the third period. Playing in his ninth NHL game, Xhekaj twice deflected a wrist shot from Matheson at the blue line. The play underwent a video review for a high stick before referees confirmed the marker, with Kirby Dach earning the secondary assist. Matheson finished the night with two assists.
St. Louis Blues Shut Out in Second Consecutive Home Game
The Blues fell to 5-6-1 overall and 3-2-1 at home following their second straight scoreless defeat. St. Louis previously dropped a 4-0 decision to the visiting Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Jordan Binnington made 18 saves for the Blues, who have now lost two consecutive matches after winning the first two games of their five-game homestand.

The offensive slump echoes struggles from the previous season, when St. Louis ranked 24th in goals and managed only two goals or fewer in 36 separate contests. The Blues generated plenty of offense with 46 total shots on goal, but Fowler turned aside every scoring chance to hand the Blues their second consecutive shutout loss.
Upcoming Matchups for Montreal and St. Louis
The Canadiens continue their four-game road trip on Thursday night when they visit the Dallas Stars. Montreal will then return home to the Bell Centre to face the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

The Blues conclude their current homestand on Thursday night by hosting the Boston Bruins as they attempt to break their two-game scoring drought.
