Authorities are intensifying preparations at major transportation hubs to manage the anticipated surge in travelers.

Peak Travel Days Anticipated

The peak of the mudik season is expected on Wednesday and Thursday, March 18th and 19th, 2026, as many seek to return home before Nyepi on Thursday and Idul Fitri, anticipated to fall on Friday or Saturday depending on the moon sighting .

Traffic Management and Traveler Numbers

As of Tuesday, March 17th, 2026, approximately 28 percent of the projected 3.5 million vehicles leaving Jakarta during the holiday season had already departed for other regions . National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) chief Insp. Gen. Agus Suryonugroho assured the public that traffic remains under control, with measures like one-way and counterflow traffic systems in place as part of Operation Ketupat .
