James Gunn Writes Next DCU Script While Completing Superman Sequel Assembly Cut
DC Studios co-head James Gunn is actively writing his next screenplay while waiting for the assembly cut of his upcoming superhero sequel to take shape. “Already in it.”
The update arrives as the July 9, 2027 theatrical release date approaches for Superman: Man of Tomorrow. Filming on the project wrapped in August, marking the direct continuation of 2025’s Superman.
Character Lineups and Production Milestones in the DC Universe
David Corenswet returns as the Man of Steel in Superman: Man of Tomorrow, where the hero teams up with his adversary Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult. The pair must join forces to defeat Brainiac, a superintelligent antagonist portrayed by Lars Eidinger. Rachel Brosnahan also returns as Lois Lane.
Additional cast members returning for the sequel include Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Milly Alcock reprises her role as Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El following her appearance in this summer’s Supergirl. Furthermore, the film introduces Aaron Pierre as John Stewart ahead of the character’s debut in the HBO Max series Lanterns.
