Jaromír Hanzlík: A Czech Acting Icon Celebrates a Milestone
Actor Jaromír Hanzlík, known for iconic roles like Uncle Pepin, tractor driver Honza and Dr. Jander, is marking a significant moment in his life. As he approaches his 78th birthday on February 16, 2026, his life is marked by both reflection and continued success.
A Life on Stage and Screen
Jaromír Hanzlík has established himself as a prominent figure in Czech theater and film. His versatility allows him to portray a wide range of characters, earning him a dedicated following. Director Viktor Polesný describes Hanzlík as a “universal, but likewise absolutely original actor, whose repertoire is incredible.”
A fresh documentary, “Léta s Jaromírem Hanzlíkem” (Years with Jaromír Hanzlík), released in 2023, chronicles Hanzlík’s life and career, including periods of fame, artistic silence, time spent abroad, and his eventual return to the Czech Republic. The film features interviews with colleagues such as Petr Štěpánek, Daniela Kolářová, Zdeněk Svěrák, Jaroslav Satoranský, Tereza Brodská, and his son, David Hanzlík.
A Past Love Remembered
This year’s birthday arrives shortly after the passing of actress Jana Brejchová, with whom Hanzlík shared twelve years of his life. Hanzlík expressed his grief and remembrance, stating, “Jana, our queen, lives on in people’s hearts. Thank you for the wonderful twelve years we spent together. I will never forget her.” Their relationship began while Brejchová was still with Vlastimil Brodský, creating a complex dynamic.
The couple’s relationship ultimately ended during a trip to the United States and Canada, with Brejchová departing for her brother in Boston after a difficult conversation with Hanzlík.
Financial Success and Future Plans
Despite a career often associated with artistic pursuits, Hanzlík has demonstrated astute financial acumen. He has built a substantial real estate portfolio in Prague, owning properties in Řeznická Street, on Masaryková nábřeží, and in Opatovická, as well as a house in Nespeká and land in Chocerady and Jinolice. This financial stability allows him to be selective about his roles.
Currently, Hanzlík enjoys a more secluded life, accompanied by his dog, Nanynka. He dedicates his time to writing, having completed three screenplays, and continues to accept acting roles that genuinely interest him, such as his recent work in the series “Oktopus.”
