Marvel Assembles MLB Stars and Multiverse Heroes for Avengers Doomsday

Marvel Studios debuted a one-minute promotional spot for Avengers: Doomsday during Game 1 of the World Series, blending Major League Baseball players with footage from the upcoming multiverse epic. ign.com reported that a new trailer arrived on Saturday, roughly 24 hours after the initial crossover promo premiered during the broadcast between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers.

The preview features Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman, Mariners outfielder Randy Arozarena, Brewers starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski, Phillies first baseman/outfielder Bryce Harper, and Rays third baseman Junior Caminero. In the spot, Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic takes the mound at Ebbets Field to throw out a ceremonial first pitch to Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch, wearing a Brooklyn Dodgers cap. “These ceremonial first pitches are getting bigger and bigger,” Misiorowski jokes in the clip.

Fans Debate Amount of Movie Footage Shown

While the crossover brought professional athletes into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, viewer responses to the amount of actual movie footage were mixed. Many fans took to social media to express frustration over receiving only a few glimpses of new scenes after the league teased an exclusive preview.

“I had to watch 3 innings of f–king BASEBALL for this s–t,” one viewer wrote on X, while another posted, “THAT’S IT???” Other viewers defended the marketing strategy, arguing that limiting the footage prevents major spoilers from leaking ahead of the theatrical release. “I honestly am not mad they didn’t show more, I want to enjoy every minute in that theatre,” another fan wrote on X.

Beyond the baseball crossover, the promotional material highlights the dynamic between Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Chris Evans’ returning Steve Rogers. ign.com noted that Thor appears to be the leader of the Avengers in the footage, rallying the team against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom by stating, “Doom will tear this world apart. Team up and stand together.”

The trailer also features Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man addressing the multiple men who have carried the mantle of Captain America, including Steve, Sam Wilson, and USAgent, who remarks in the scene, “I was also Cap for a minute.” The preview also includes brief appearances by Letitia Wright’s Black Panther and Anthony Mackie’s Captain America before Robert Downey Jr.’s character appears in the skies over the field. Harper reacts to the arrival by telling the group, “We gotta go. Like, now.”

Cast Additions and Theatrical Release Plans

The latest promotional push follows recent casting announcements for the feature. ign.com confirmed that Sandra Hüller, known for Project Hail Mary, has joined the project in an undisclosed role, while David Harbour addressed recent interview comments regarding secrecy.

Avengers: Doomsday is written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely, produced by Kevin Feige and the Russos, and scheduled to open in theaters on December 18. The film will be followed immediately by a sequel titled Avengers: Secret Wars, which is slated for release on December 17, 2027.
