Jeollanam-do Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory Receives National Award for Disease Diagnosis Excellence

The Jeollanam-do Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory has been recognized for its high-quality livestock disease diagnosis capabilities, receiving the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural affairs award. This award stems from the laboratory’s performance in the Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Quarantine Headquarters’ ‘Disease Diagnosis Ability Quality Control’ evaluation, confirming its position as a leading institution in animal disease diagnostics in South Korea.

National Proficiency Testing programme

The ‘Disease Diagnosis Ability Quality Control’ program, often referred to as a Proficiency Test, is a crucial component of maintaining high standards in livestock disease analysis. The program assesses the accuracy and overall diagnostic capabilities of livestock disease analysis agencies across the country. Evaluation Details & Results

This year’s evaluation encompassed 71 agencies, including 46 local government livestock quarantine institutions and 25 private livestock disease evaluation agencies (comprising 15 private research institutes and 10 veterinary colleges). The diagnostic skills of each agency were tested across 14 key disease areas, including:

* Foot-and-mouth disease
* Avian influenza
* Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE)
* African swine fever
* Brucellosis
* Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS)
* Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED)
* Newcastle disease
* Pathological diagnosis

The Jeollanam-do Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory achieved a “suitable” rating across all 14 evaluation items, distinguishing it as a top performer among the 46 local government facilities. This consistent performance demonstrates a commitment to accuracy and reliability in livestock disease detection.
