Nicole Petermichl, a 35-year-old mechatronics technician from the Allgäu region, has achieved a significant weight loss of 77 kilograms, dropping from a maximum weight of 135 kilograms to 58 kilograms. Petermichl, who stands 1.72 meters tall, reports that she has maintained this weight for over two years without the use of traditional diets or exercise regimens.

The Catalyst for Change

Petermichl attributes her decision to change her lifestyle to a medical appointment in late 2022. During a routine gynecological screening, a precancerous lesion was detected on her cervix. This diagnosis prompted her to reevaluate her health habits. She was informed by her physician that the condition would require close monitoring.

Transitioning to Intuitive Eating

Before her weight loss, Petermichl’s eating habits were characterized by a high intake of sugar and the consumption of leftover food while caring for her three young children. She noted that she previously felt compelled to finish the contents of pots and snack while preparing meals for her family. Her daily routine often included sugary cereals, frequent trips to the bakery for pastries, and daily cake consumption in the afternoons. On the way back from the day-care center, she and her two younger children would stop by the bakery every time to get a danish pastry or something similar. While cooking midday meals, she always tasted generously and ended up emptying the plates and pots.

Rather than relying on restrictive dieting, Petermichl adopted a strategy of intuitive eating. She began to focus on a single question: Habe ich wirklich Hunger? (Do I really have hunger?). By avoiding strict prohibitions on specific foods—a cycle she says previously led to compulsive overeating—she maintained a balanced approach. She continues to allow her children to eat without restrictions, stating: Ich möchte bei den Kindern nicht denselben Fehler machen wie bei mir. Ich möchte nichts verbieten. According to her recent interview, she now considers her current weight to be her Wohlfühl-Ich (feel-good self) and maintains it with ease.

Medical Improvements

Before adopting her new lifestyle, Petermichl had dealt with various problems involving different health metrics, ranging from diabetes to cholesterol, and her blood pressure was also far from ideal. Following her transformation, a physician told her: Vor mir sitzt eine Person mit den Blutwerten einer Leistungssportlerin.
