Joe Grier, Beloved Claremorris Resident, Passes Away Suddenly
Joe Grier of Convent Road, Claremorris, County Mayo, has passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, as announced on Monday, March 16, 2026. He was formerly of Coolroe, Claremorris. His death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from the local community.
A Life Remembered
Joe Grier is remembered as a devoted husband and best friend to Sheila (née Devane). He was a loving father to Damien and Gillian (Kelly), and a cherished grandfather to Robyn and Blake. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Norman.
Family and Legacy
Mr. Grier was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Mary Grier, and his siblings Harry, Matt, and Martha, as well as his sister-in-law, Ita. He is deeply missed by his sisters Breege and Maureen, sisters-in-law Marita, Jo, Eileen, and Ann, and brothers-in-law Kevin, JP, and Tom. His nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many friends and neighbors also mourn his loss.
Funeral Arrangements
Reposing will seize place at Gilligan’s Funeral Home, Market Square, Claremorris (F12YP74) on Thursday, March 19th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral cortege will arrive at St. Colman’s Church, Claremorris, on Friday, March 20th, for Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM, followed by burial in Crossboyne Cemetery. The Funeral Mass will be live-streamed on the St. Colman’s YouTube page.
The family requests that the house remain strictly private at all times. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Irish Kidney Association.
