Emmerdale star Joe-Warren Plant completed the Berlin Marathon over the weekend, raising money for the Mental Health Foundation and finishing the course in 4 hours and 14 minutes. Joe-Warren Plant Completes Second Career Marathon in Berlin
Joe-Warren Plant ran his second career marathon in Berlin over the weekend, following his debut event last year in Edinburgh. Sharing updates with his followers on Instagram, the actor explained that a difficult second half of his training plan kept him from achieving his goal of finishing in under four hours.
“Can’t get over how amazing this past weekend has been,” Joe wrote on social media. “Since my first Marathon last year in Edinburgh I’ve been desperate to do another. I feel very lucky to box one of the World Marathon Majors off for my 2nd attempt! Berlin is so cool!”
“After a poor second half to my training plan I didn’t manage to get the Sub 4 I wanted but maybe next time. Reminder to self: Never underestimate a Marathon!”
The actor completed the challenging course in 4 hours and 14 minutes. He added that the physical test ranks among his toughest experiences, encouraging others to tackle at least one marathon during their lifetime.
Fundraising Efforts for the Mental Health Foundation
The primary goal of Joe’s run was to raise money for the Mental Health Foundation. Through an online JustGiving page, he has raised £1,257 toward his goal so far.
Explaining his connection to the cause on his fundraising page, Joe stated that the topic is close to his heart. “We need to give more people the opportunities and tools to receive the help they need,” he wrote. “So we can curate our own guide book. So we can figure out what works for us. So we don’t have to suffer in silence.”
Thanking those who contributed to his campaign, the soap star credited public generosity for pushing him through the grueling miles. “Your generosity is what kept me going throughout those 4hrs and 14 minutes. From the bottom of my heart, it means a lot,” he shared.
Co-Star Reactions and Praise
Cast members from Emmerdale quickly filled the comments section of the actor’s social media post to congratulate him on finishing the race. Charity Dingle actress Emma Atkins revealed that his achievement brought her to tears.
“Aw Joe this is beautiful what an incredible achievement you got me crying here. Sending warm hugs you legend. Well done. I’ll be sure to donate xxxx,” Emma wrote.
Laura Norton posted, “Well done superhuman superhero,” while Karen Blick added, “Well done amazing achievement.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8 pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
