Underwriting the GNU Infrastructure
Donations serve as the lifeblood for the foundation’s core operations, most notably the infrastructure supporting the GNU Project. Membership dues also sustain the Licensing and Compliance Lab, a critical resource for developers navigating the complexities of the GNU Public License (GPL).
Advocacy Across the Digital Front
Beyond licensing, the foundation directs its resources toward several active campaigns:
- Defective by Design: An initiative.
- Fight to Repair: A project.
- LibrePhone and LibreLocal: Projects.
Incentives for New Supporters
Associate members who join during the drive gain access to a suite of benefits, including a 16GB bootable membership card, discounts at the GNU Press Shop, and use of the organization’s dedicated videoconferencing server. To mark the July 24 deadline, the FSF has introduced specific promotional incentives:
- Welcome Gift: New associate members receive an “Anti-Surveillance Webcam Guard.”
- Historical Milestones: The organization is tracking new sign-ups in relation to a significant number related to GNU and FSF history, offering prizes such as branded apparel, stickers, and plush toys to members whose sign-up coincides with these numbers.
