Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Agricultural Research and Extension Services (Director Choi Jun-yeol) announced on the 10th that it had signed a business agreement to establish a stable supply model for agricultural by-product raw materials.

The purpose of this agreement is to create a system that converts by-products generated in large quantities during agricultural and food processing processes into ‘usable raw materials’ rather than ‘wastes’.

In particular, the core of the agreement is the standardization of the entire collection, pre-processing, and supply process.

Until now, agricultural by-products had structural limitations in that most of them were discarded due to inconsistent raw material specifications and lack of a stable collection and supply system.

Through this agreement, Jeonbuk Agricultural Research Institute plans to lay the foundation for converting by-products into ‘standard raw materials’ that can be continuously used in the field.

The agreement includes the National Institute of Crop Science of the Rural Development Administration, the Jeonbuk Agricultural Research Institute, seven provincial agricultural research institutes (Gangwon, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam), and 11 startup companies in the field of upcycling of agricultural by-products.

This agreement was promoted as part of cooperation to increase the field applicability and effectiveness of ‘modeling research for stable supply of agricultural by-product raw materials’, which is being promoted for five years from 2025 to 2029.

Through the business agreement, research institutes and upcycling companies plan to establish a cooperative system that links the entire cycle of agricultural by-products from generation to utilization, and establish a stable supply and demand basis to create a resource-cycling agricultural and food industry ecosystem.

This is expected to lead to a ripple effect on the local economy, including alleviating the burden of processing and transporting by-products on farms, improving the sustainability of Jeonbuk’s agricultural and life industry, and attracting and growing related companies.
