This transition has impacted the playing time of veteran center Jonas Valančiūnas, who has seen a reduction in minutes and has not played in the last two games.1

Adelman explained that the team is now focused on identifying lineups best suited for the rigors of playoff basketball. “We are looking for lineups that fit playoff basketball. That means versatility, defensive flexibility, and we have to create challenging decisions about rotation,” Adelman stated.2 The coaching staff is prioritizing faster, more agile lineups capable of defending against a variety of opponents.

Despite the reduced role, Adelman emphasized Valančiūnas’ professionalism and continued value to the team. “Jonas takes everything professionally. He gives us physical strength, toughness under the basket. But a lot depends on the opponents. We are building a team that will work in different playoff scenarios,” Adelman said.1
The Nuggets are increasingly utilizing lighter frontcourt combinations to expand the court and increase the pace of play. Adelman noted, “There are games where his impact is huge – fighting for rebounds, controlling the paint. That hasn’t disappeared. The question is when and how to exploit that.”1
