Campaign Platform and Key Issues
Stratton campaigned on a progressive platform, advocating for policies such as “Medicare for All” and a $25 minimum wage. She also voiced support for abolishing ICE, a position that drew scrutiny but which she defended by highlighting concerns about the federal government’s actions against its own citizens. Financial Disparities in the Primary
Despite facing a significant financial disadvantage, Stratton secured the Democratic nomination. Krishnamoorthi spent $29 million on advertising, while Kelly’s campaign spent $1.4 million and Stratton’s spent $1.1 million. Stratton also faced nearly $10 million in attack ads funded by Fairshake, a group backed by cryptocurrency executives, potentially linked to state crypto regulations signed into law by Governor Pritzker.
Background and Experience
Prior to her Senate run, Stratton served as Lieutenant Governor of Illinois alongside Governor Pritzker since 2019.
