Founded in 1997 as the Prison Reform Advocacy Center, the organization has evolved to address a broader spectrum of issues, advocating for fairness and effectiveness at every stage – from pre-trial to re-entry.

Origins and Evolution

Al Gerhardstein envisioned a force for positive change within Ohio’s legal system, leading to the creation of the Prison Reform Advocacy Center (PRAC) in Cincinnati in 1997. Recognizing the need for a more comprehensive approach, PRAC expanded its mission and was renamed the Ohio Justice & Policy Center in 2006. This expansion reflected a commitment to tackling systemic issues and advocating for policy changes.

OJPC’s work is centered around three key areas:
