English golfer Justin Rose has found an unconventional preparation ground for the 2026 Open Championship: the home pitch of Premier League club Everton. The world No. 4-ranked player will take advantage of a unique golf experience being hosted at Everton’s new waterfront stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock in Liverpool.

Everton is partnering with Upper Deck Golf to transform the stadium into a temporary golf course from July 16–19, 2026 — coinciding with the Open Championship at nearby Royal Birkdale. The setup will feature tee boxes positioned high in the stands and custom-built greens laid out on the pitch below, allowing fans to watch golf action from within the football ground.

Rose confirmed his interest in the event via social media, noting he would be “in the area that week” as he prepares for golf’s oldest major. He publicly challenged fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood to a pre-Open match, to which Everton responded: “You are both very welcome.” The club emphasized the event will occur during its offseason, minimizing disruption to pitch preparations for the upcoming football season.

When asked about the golf setup during a pre-match press conference, Everton manager David Moyes remarked with humor, “Taking big divots out of the pitch, eh?” acknowledging the novelty of the arrangement while maintaining his focus on the team’s upcoming fixtures.

This initiative marks the first time a Premier League stadium outside North America will host such a golf experience. Spectators will be able to follow live coverage of the Open Championship on screens inside the venue, blending two major sporting events in one location during the same weekend.
