The All Blacks will wear black armbands during Sunday’s Northern Tour opener against Scotland to honor Logan Cadwallader, the team’s head of security for the past decade, who died suddenly after a medical event at the team’s hotel in Edinburgh, 1News reported.

Cadwallader, a former SAS soldier, was found dead at the hotel on Sunday. The players will wear the armbands on the alternate white jerseys traditionally worn for Tests on Scottish soil.

Cadwallader’s family travels to Edinburgh for the match

Coach Dave Rennie confirmed that Cadwallader’s son, Trey, is traveling to Scotland to attend the game. His brother Dwayne and best friend Nathan have also made their way to Edinburgh, where they spent time with Rennie and the squad.

“It’s been a tough few days,” Rennie said. “He’s such a good man. He meant a hell of a lot to the team, so it’s been a big emotional toll.”

Described as a “hugely respected and much loved” member of staff, Cadwallader’s death has sent shockwaves through the All Blacks camp. Rennie said the team would do their utmost to honor him with their performance this weekend.

“We’ve certainly talked about that,” he said. “He wouldn’t be happy with us moping around all week and struggling to put in a performance.”
