Justin Thomas Returns to PGA Tour Competition at Arnold Palmer Invitational
Orlando, Florida – After a six-month hiatus due to a back injury, Justin Thomas is set to return to competitive golf at the 2026 Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Club & Lodge. The tournament, the third Signature Event of the 2026 PGA Tour season, will also feature world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and seven-time PGA Tour winner Collin Morikawa.
Thomas’s Recovery and Expectations
Thomas underwent surgery in November to address a disc issue that caused nagging hip pain. He acknowledged the challenges of returning after such a long break, stating, “I’ve got to be realistic, I haven’t played a tournament in six months.” He noted this is the longest stretch he’s gone without competitive play since he began playing golf as a child.
While his swing feels excellent, Thomas anticipates a mental challenge. “It’s just going to be the concentrating for four and a half, five hours on a extremely difficult test, four days in a row,” he explained. He has been cleared for full golf activities for about a month and feels his swing speed is close to normal.
TGL Participation and Preparation
Prior to the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Thomas participated in one match in the TGL, a tech-infused golf league. While his performance in the TGL match wasn’t ideal, he views it as a valuable step in his preparation. He emphasized the importance of re-acclimating to different course conditions and scenarios, such as fairway bunkers, which he hadn’t encountered in months.
Field at the Arnold Palmer Invitational
The 2026 Arnold Palmer Invitational boasts a strong field, including Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, and several other top players. The tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday, March 5th at Bay Hill Club & Lodge.
Looking Ahead
Thomas understands that regaining his competitive edge will seize time and patience. He is focused on concentrating throughout each round and managing expectations as he returns to the PGA Tour. His return marks a significant moment for both Thomas and golf fans eager to see him back in action.
